We've collected some of our most common questions to help you in your journey at York.
ACMAPS hold regular events, discussions and workshops for mature, part-time and transfer students, and we encourage you to get involved and to work together to build a community at York. Some reasons to visit us are:

you are applying to York and want to discuss whether university studies are right for you or get feedback on your personal letter;

you are a new student at York and wish to participate in our Mature Student Orientation program;

You are getting settled in at York and want to participate in special events or sessions;

you have ideas, concerns or questions related to your experience as a mature, part-time or transfer student at York;

you have questions, concerns or difficulties with any aspect of your studies and want to talk with an ACMAPS member about your current challenges; and/or
-
you are a student or faculty member interested in adult learning.
York University is committed to welcoming and serving the needs of mature, part-time and transfer students across all faculties! You are encouraged to explore and engage in programming, services and the resources available for mature, part-time and transfer students throughout the year, including peer mentorship, specialized orientations and more.

Many mature students return successfully to their studies after years (or even decades) away from school.
We encourage all new mature students to take advantage of York’s orientation programs, academic support services and ACMAPS. It can take a while to adjust, but with the support of York’s academic support services and personal commitment, mature students do succeed!
If you feel you need to test the waters before returning, York offers several pre-university programs that might be for you.

The Visual Schedule Builder (VSB) is an online self-serve tool that helps you plan your academic schedule. It allows you to view schedule options and create a timetable based on the courses and timeslots that work best for you.
Seniors (over 60) enrolled at York may have all or part of their academic fees waived at the domestic fee rate for York University degree credit courses.

York has several programs that serve the unique needs of mature and transfer students:

The Atkinson Centre for Mature and Part-time Students (ACMAPS) provides orientation sessions, peer mentorship, transition support and workshops throughout the year for mature, part-time and transfer students at York.

The York University Mature Student’s Organization (YUMSO) is a student run group that offers the opportunity to connect to other mature students through social events, activities and networking opportunities.

Yes! The Career Centre is open to all York students and provides support in the development of career self-management skills. The Career Centre can also help mature students with their career journeys. Some of the supports and services offered by the Career Centre are:

job search advising;

sessions and workshops about many topics, including self-discovery exercises, cover letter and resume preparation and interviewing skills; and
-
one-on-one support for resume and cover letter feedback and interview preparation.
Yes, The Lee Wiggins Childcare Centre and the York University Co-operative Daycare Centre are both located on the Keele Campus and serve many parents who are students, staff and faculty.
There are various services available after 4:30 p.m. and on weekends to accommodate the needs of all students. Please view the attached YU Resources Link document for more details. Kindly note the hours of operation are subject to change each semester. We encourage you to contact individual units for further information.
In addition to the financial opportunities available to all students, there are several scholarships reserved specifically for mature and transfer students, including entrance scholarships.

Use the Award Search tool: In addition to searching for scholarships by faculty and field of study, you can type the keyword “mature” or "transfer" into York’s Award Search tool to find specific scholarships for mature students.
Don’t be shy to apply! Many scholarships require an application, so do take the time to look at the available awards. Our ACMAPS staff will be glad to help you.
