Your Quick Financial Guide

Always pay attention to email notifications and deadlines to avoid late penalties or being de-enrolled from courses.

Domestic Students:

  • After you enrol in your first course, you need to pay a one-time $300 non-refundable registration deposit.
  • The deposit will be credited toward your tuition: it is not an extra fee.
  • The deposit secures your spot in your classes. If you do not pay this deposit, then you risk de-enrolment from your courses.
  • If you apply for OSAP funding, your enrolment confirmation process for the release of that funding cannot happen until you pay the registration deposit.

International Students:

  • After you accept your offer, you must pay a $2,000 non-refundable acceptance deposit.
  • This is credited toward your tuition and required before you can enroll in courses.
  • After York receives your deposit, you will be able to access your Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL).
  • If your study permit is refused, you may be eligible for a refund.
TAKE NOTE: If you are a Protected Person or Convention Refugee, then you do not pay the $2,000 international student acceptance deposit. Instead, you will pay the $300 registration deposit after enrolling in courses.

For More Information:

The Paying Your Deposit page on our Student Financial Services website has step-by-step deposit payment instructions, deadlines, and refund information.

All tuition and fees are paid to your York University student account, where you will see charges, due dates, and payments made.

Payment Methods:

  • From a Canadian bank: Use online or telephone banking, with York University as the payee and your nine-digit York student number as the account number.
  • From abroad: York partners with CIBC International Student Pay and Convera GlobalPay for secure international transfers. Do not use any other third-party payment agents!
  • Loyalty points: Some programs (like Aeroplan) can be used to help pay tuition through HigherEdPoints.com.

TAKE NOTE: Plan ahead to ensure your payments arrive by the due dates!

You should allow 4 business days for payments made from a Canadian bank to reach your York University student account.

Payments from other financial institutions may take even longer to arrive

The Paying My Account page on our Student Financial Services website has step-by-step instructions.

Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP):

  • OSAP is for residents of Ontario who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or
    protected persons.
  • Apply early for government loans and grants. Many York awards and bursaries also require you to apply for OSAP.
  • OSAP applications for the Fall/Winter Session generally open in May. Applying by July 15 usually ensures that you get your funding by the start of the semester.
  • You do not already have to be enrolled in your Fall/Winter courses at the time you apply for OSAP support. We therefore recommend submitting your OSAP application as soon as you can!
  • After submitting the application, check the OSAP portal regularly for any updates or requests for further documentation. For your submission to be complete, you must upload all the required supporting documents.
  • Supporting documents can only be uploaded by you: we do not accept physical copies of the documents. Please see How to Upload your Supporting Documents for detailed instructions.

Students Who Are Not Ontario Residents:

Different financial aid programs are available students from other provinces/territories and the United States: visit Student Aid for Non-Ontario Residents on the Student Financial Services website for more information.

For More Information:

Visit osap.yorku.ca to learn how undergraduate OSAP funding works at York University.

  • Students can apply for in-course scholarships, awards and bursaries by completing the Financial Aid, Scholarships and Awards (FAAS) application.
  • The FAAS application opens on August 1 for Fall/Winter awards. You are encouraged to complete the application by October 15 to be considered for the greatest number of awards.
  • The FAAS application remains open until the end of the school year. You should check the portal regularly to see what new award opportunities are available.
  • Any funding you receive will be placed in your York University student account to reduce your balance owing. If the funding you receive exceeds the charges on your account, then you can request a refund of the excess amount.

When you log in to the FAAS application for the first time, you'll create your Student Profile with personal and financial information that will help you be considered for and matched to financial aid opportunities.

For More Information:

Visit the FAAS Application page on our Student Financial Services website.

We highly recommend that you set up the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) process with us.

If you are ever eligible for a refund on your student account—for example, if you accidentally pay us too much, or your awarded financial aid exceeds the charges on your account—having the EFT in place means your refund can be securely and quickly deposited directly into your Canadian bank account.

That means no waiting for a paper cheque to arrive in the mail, so you can get your refund faster!

How to set up EFT for refunds:

  1. Log in to the Student Address Module using your Passport York account.
  2. Go to the “My Banking Information” screen and enter your:
    • Financial institution number
    • Transit number (branch)
    • Bank account number
  3. York will send a small test deposit to your account.
  4. Confirm the amount deposited to finish your EFT setup so York can process future refunds directly to your bank.

Visit the Refunds page on our Student Financial Services website.
