Roundtable Discussion: Black Mature Student Experience at York U

Earlier in February, to kick off Black History Month, we hosted an honorary round table discussion in collaboration with the Atkinson Centre for Part-time Students (ACMAPS) hosted an honorary roundtable discussion focused on the experiences of mature students in university. The conversation highlighted key challenges and strategies for success, such as navigating academia as an adult, balancing family responsibilities with coursework, and thriving in classrooms often dominated by younger peers. The discussion was moderated by April J. Walker, with perspectives shared by mature students, specifically Clifton Grant, Samantha Maxwell, Adaeze Emmanuel, and Omar Taylor.
