Meet the Team

Bereket Cunnison:

Program: 3rd Year B.A., Hons. Law & Society

Background: I’m a third-year undergraduate student majoring in Law & Society at York University. My interest in the program stems from my passion for advocacy, policy and learning about government structures. I enjoy getting involved on campus through clubs and volunteering.  In my free time I’m often listening to music or watching a Romcom. Being outdoors playing tennis, pickleball or being in the sun all bring me joy.

Future Goals: In the future, I hope to go to law school and continue my journey of advocacy and education.

James Ehiagwina:

Program: 4th year B.Sc., Honours Nursing

Background: I am a fourth-year Nursing student at York University. My interests are creating inclusive and supportive spaces within healthcare. I have had the privilege of serving two terms as President of the Canadian Black Nurses Alliance (CBNA) York University chapter, where I led initiatives that promoted diversity and amplified the voices of Black nursing students, and as a student senator for the Faculty of Health, where I worked to advance student welfare and contribute to health policy discussions. Beyond York, I am a passionate mental health advocate, and I contribute to national conversations on youth mental health and improving access to essential support services. I am also honoured to be recognized as a 3M National Student Fellow.

Future Goals: My future goals are to become a pediatric nurse, further my education with a master’s in nursing, and pursue opportunities in education and research within healthcare.

Nebiyou Timotewos:

Program: 4th year B.A., Hons. Maj/Min Global Political Studies & Human Rights and Equity Studies with a Professional Certification in Public Administration and Law from York University.

Background: I’m currently in my fourth year at York University, where I’m not only a student but also the founder of Brothers4Brothers, Communities Care, and The Kindness Loop.  During my time at York, I have been privileged to serve in various leadership roles, including President’s Ambassador and Ambassador for Leadership, Equity, and Education. As I step into my final year, I am deeply optimistic and energized by the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead as we continue working to build a stronger, more inclusive, and welcoming campus for all students. In my free time, you will likely find me outdoors, taking in the beauty of nature or going for a run. I also enjoy rewatching my favourite show, because who doesn’t love the multiverse?

Future Goals: I have a deep interest in leveraging technology, innovation, and emerging advancements to create meaningful and lasting positive change in our communities, our country, and the world.
